Press Release — On December 29th, 2011, in the city of Kampala and for the very first time in our Country’s history, the immense contribution of those Ugandans living outside their Motherland was officially recognized at the grand Ugandan Diaspora Social Networking Dinner.
[1]
Supporting this event was the Diaspora Unit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Uganda Investment Authority and Ugandans living in the Diaspora many of whom travelled down to Uganda to be a part of this ground breaking ceremony. The guest of honor was Uganda’s Vice President H.E. Edward Kiwanuka Sekandi, senior representatives from the government of Uganda and leading business leaders from the private sector.
[2]
Interacting at the event were Ugandans who have settled all over the world; and their compatriots who live at home. Experiences between the two groups have since led to new partnerships and synergies – but with the recognition that remittances from abroad are the second largest source for Uganda’s foreign exchange reserves after tourism. This constituency can therefore contribute immensely toward boosting Uganda’s diaspora and cultural tourism by encouraging those Ugandans that have settled abroad to bring their offspring annually and share in their culture and history that has made us proudly Ugandan.
[3]
The first Ugandan Diaspora Social Networking gala was therefore huge success and a sold out affair that will be held annually. However this year will even be better in as far as providing networking opportunities and linking up the businesses tailored toward the Ugandan Diaspora. We are lining up all the best in entertainment, business networking opportunities and creating the awareness that Ugandans in the Diaspora are a huge constituency that have a stake in the future development of our country given their highly skilled labor and training abroad.
[4]
We therefore invite all those who can travel down to Uganda to save the date and join us as we celebrate the second Uganda Diaspora social networking gala which will be held at Kampala Serena Hotel’s Victoria hall on December 30th from 6pm with the official after party held at Kampala’s number one night spot, The Gunvor from 11pm onwards. http://www.ugandandiasporanews.com/2012/09/15/guvnor-uganda-the-official-ugandan-diaspora-after-party-venue-december-30th-2012/[5]
