Atal Stella is a renowned Ugandan fashion designer and professional artist based in Paris. She has been on the fashion scene since 2007 and her wearable art collections have been showcased on both Ugandan and international runways.
The self taught fashion designer has won numerous fashion accolades .Stella has also showcased in various places both locally and internationally in places like Barcelona – Spain ,Norway, Ethical fashion – UK, Afri-collection week -Doula Cameroon, Denmark, Germany, New York Africa fashion week, 90 Degreez fashion in Philadelphia – Pennsylvania ,UNAA-CAUSES Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Balumuka cultural festival Prague, Amsterdam Nossa cultural festival, voodoo Togo/Benin cultural festival -utrecht-Netherlands, Africa United-Paris-France, green fashion week-Switzerland, kitenge festival-London-UK,Malabo international Fashion week, Equatorial Guinea, amongst others.
Stella has also been the official designer for Miss Uganda 2009 Beauty Pageants and Miss Africa USA in Maryland Washington D.C in 2010. Stella is currently based in Paris where she runs her art and fashion business registered under the Chamber of Arts and Creativity. The registration provides her with a great opportunity of manufacturing and selling of her branded clothes and copyrighted art pieces as well as teaching fashion privately and at institutions.
While in Uganda, Stella engaged herself in a number of community projects which involved artistic therapy workshops and economic empowerment of HIV positive women and children, female commercial sex workers ,girls that have undergone FGM, children in detention centers and ex-child soldiers. She has worked with various charity and fundraising platforms to advocate and raise funds for cancer patients, children’s homes, FGM awareness and the empowerment of the girl child in Uganda.
Stella has been featured in both local and international books and magazines like Vogue Italia magazine as well as appearing on TV and radios talk shows. Living in a fashion capital such as Paris, Stella would like to use the opportunity to help the fashion industry in Uganda develop to the international level and connect its young designers to the international fashion communities as well as working with different fashion institutions in Uganda to ensure that fashion students get the best out of their courses.
Stella Atal will be one of the featured headline designers at this year’s 7th annual Ugandan Diaspora gala held at the Kampala Serena Hotel on Saturday 30th Dec 2017.
The Uganda Diaspora Network is a forum aimed at bringing together Ugandans who live and work abroad by celebrating their contributions overseas and also encouraging them to give of their time, talents, ideas and expertise whilst inspiring the next generation of Ugandan leaders. Every year the Ugandan Diaspora Network will organize an annual Social Networking Gala and will also produce a quarterly publication highlighting the successes of the various Ugandans residing overseas.
