Stephen Gwoktcho is a contemporary African Artist who depicts Africa’s intricate flora, fauna, culture, heritage, history and her people through paintings. He holds a Masters Degree from College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT) Makerere University. He is currently pursuing his PhD at the Department of Visual Communication Design and Multimedia (VCDM) in Margaret Trowel School of Industrial and Fine Arts (MTSIFA).

Some of his notable achievements as a professional artist and statesman are cited below:

• 9th to 11th September 2015, Stephen exhibited 10 paintings at the United Nations alongside Bart Walter (US. Sculptor), Nuwa Nyanzi (Batik artist from Uganda) and D. Nsereko (Photographer from Uganda). Organized in collaboration with the Ugandan Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife & Antiquities and the Uganda Tourism Board. The Exhibition titled “Uganda, the Pearl” under the auspices of H.E. Mr. Sam Kahamba Kutesa, President of the Sixty-Ninth session of the General Assembly. Hon. Dr. Maria Lubega Mutagamba, Uganda’s Minister of Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities. Guest of Honour was the then UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon • Exhibited 24 Paintings and 3 wood Sculptures at Nommo Gallery Kampala, Uganda from 10th – 23rd August, 2015 in a sole exhibition.

• 2010 exhibited 30 paintings in Baton Rouge Louisiana USA, and presented a paper on HIV and AIDS situation in Uganda at SAS Foundation Benefit Dinner at the Governor’s Mansion Baton Rouge.

• Provided Consultancy and partnership in the development of the new Uganda Revenue Authority URA logo and Corporate Identity.

• In 2005, among several other exhibitions, was hosted at Nommo Gallery in a Sole exhibition. The highlight of which was the plight of the Ugandan woman and gender issues in society. • 2001 put up a sole Art Exhibition at the Uganda Mission in New York highlighting Uganda’s independence and multiparty democratization process.

• In 2000 Stephen was invited by Kuona Trust Art Studio of the National Museum of Kenya, Nairobi sponsored by Ford Foundation to facilitate a one-week drawing workshop with self-taught artists. The highlight of the workshop was use of local and indigenous materials as drawing tools.

• In 1995 Stephen won the 3rd price in the Constitutional monument design organized by the Uganda Electoral Commission. Some of Stephen drawings, paintings and sculptures can be found at State House (Uganda). Stephen’s works have been bought by Mr. Charles Calimore former British High Commissioner in Uganda (1993); IMF representative in Uganda Mr. Mark Elyn; expatriate community and local patrons.
