Media Statement in Full — It is with great pleasure that we invite both partners and sponsors to our 8th annual Uganda Diaspora Social Networking Gala and Business Breakfast that will be held at Kampala Serena Hotel – Katonga Hall on Friday December 28th starting from 9am. The breakfast will be moderated by Veteran NBS anchor Solomon Serwanjja and our patron Dr. Maggie Kigozi.
We shall also have a keynote speech from the Deputy MD – NSSF who will discuss the business model of our pension scheme that has allowed the largest pension fund in the region to grow and reward its shareholders. In line with our theme — Diaspora Homecoming 2018 – How to Plan for Your Retirement, we invited Mr. Patrick Ayota as a diaspora ‘returnee’ to share his experience on how he was able to re-enter the system and overcome obstacles given a different work ethic from what he was used to in Atlanta, Georgia. We also hope he will use the opportunity to highlight all ongoing projects at NSSF that could be good investment vehicles for the diaspora.
Other elements will include discussions from our key sectors like Diaspora Banking, Home Mortgages, Real Estate Developers, Agri-business and Tourism. We shall also be introducing a Uganda Canada convention registration booth at the business breakfast to help answer questions on what to expect next year July 1st during our 3rd Annual Canada Day Weekend Convention and how to process Canadian visa in time for your travel next year. In a Special way we would like to thank Mr. Kin and the Management of NBS Television for their continued support and acceptance to partner with us for the 4th year running — carrying the business breakfast live across all its platforms. We therefore invite all Diaspora-related businesses to take advantage of this opportunity and grow their brands.
For our part we promise to create awareness across all our social media platforms as we share this year’s event over the course of the next 3 months. The Diaspora is a huge constituency which through remittances account for the second most important source of Foreign Direct Investments in Uganda.
It is therefore our hope that as a we celebrate the Best Diaspora Bank, Best Diaspora Entrepreneur, Best Diaspora Real Estate Company, Best Diaspora Agri-business, Best Diaspora Insurance Company, the Best Preferred Ugandan Lodges for Diaspora and perhaps the Best Performing Embassy we hope this will help spotlight hardworking Ugandans living and working across the globe.
By recognizing the best we hope to inspire Patriotism for the love of country and efficiency at various levels that could improve on service delivery in our country. We hope to achieve these objectives by introducing an online poll that will allow you the Diaspora to jump start this process by polling for those companies you deem fit.
On Saturday December 29th starting at 6:30pm all roads will lead to the Kampala Serena Hotel Victoria Ballroom, were the winners will be recognized in a special award ceremony that will also be televised across various media platforms. Other planned highlights will include a Grand Finale performance by a leading Band that will be joined this year by two other leading musical talents to add spice to our entertainment lineup. Fashion will also see three veteran designers, Rafael Kasule, Latif Madoi and Martha Jabo, return to unveil their new collections. If you enjoy laughter and humor Uganda’s leading comedians will also be in the house to conclude the year with some political satire of all the happenings that defined 2018. Our partner hotel — Kampala Serena Hotel is now accepting hotel reservations for our early bird attendees.
