The annual Ugandan Diaspora Social Networking Gala was held on 30th December 2014 at the Kampala Serena Hotel and featured both the seasoned and new and upcoming designers that unveiled their latest collections at Kampala Serena. On what was an evening of glamour and high fashion Ugandan Diaspora News is proud to present Rachel Nakimera (new kid on the bloc), Martha Jabo and Solome Katongole new collections. Rachel Nakimera — A graduate of the Margaret Trowell school of industrial and fine arts at Makerere University. Racheal has designed for politicians and many leading musicians in Uganda. Rachel prefers vintage clothing having been inspired by her Mother’s dress code from back in the day. She likes old styles with a modern interpretation and that has been her inspiration to merge color with a traditional fresh look. Martha Jabo — Born and raised in Kampala Uganda, Martha Jabo has always been inspired by her late mother in the field of fashion, right from a tender age. As a result of her mother’s influence on her in this regard, Martha developed a strong love for fashion and Art, which played a big role in turning her dream into a reality. Martha Jabo pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Fine Art from Makerere University, majoring in Fashion design in her final year. Before graduating from University in January 2012, she debuted her first collection at the Afrikan Walk Fashion Awards in Kampala, December 2011.  In January 2012, she founded the Martha Jabo fashion label which is the embodiment of several generations of style rolled into one, with inspiration drawn from vast subjects _and between that time and now she has had the privilege of designing and producing a substantial range of clothing for both men and women (Stocked at Bold Kampala, Acacia Mall) while engaging/participating in a number of fashion events, both local and international. Solome Katongole — She was born in Uganda and raised in Columbia, Maryland.  She was always aware of fashion from a young age and as she grew older she discovered that she had a passion for fashion design and decided to pursue a career in fashion. A scientist who also holds a bachelors of science in Biology degree this designer first showcased her designs as an undergraduate at the University of Massachusetts Boston. In 2008 she moved to LA to pursue her dream of becoming a professional designer were she attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, graduating with a Major in Fashion Design. email: (solomekatongole@gmail.com).  Solome who walks down the aisle this year in August was among the featured designers at the Diaspora Gala 2014 edition.
