Message from the Patron – Ugandan Diaspora Gala,

We welcome you all once again to the Diaspora Homecoming gala of 2014 – Be sure to enjoy your holidays with your loved ones, friends and family.

I have partnered with the Diaspora since the first UNAA convention I attended in Boston in the early 2000’s then I was Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Investment Authority. However I am proud to continue this relationship as Patron of the Annual Diaspora Networking Gala held every end of year at Kampala Serena Hotel.

Let me take this opportunity to thank Ronnie Mayanja who was determined to succeed and has indeed succeeded in hosting the best attended and most successful Diaspora event in Uganda on the calendar. I encourage the government to partner with these and other Diaspora initiatives as they are making valuable contributions to national development by driving investment opportunities.

As Ugandans living in the diaspora we cannot fail to recognise your contribution to building your nation Uganda. Over the years we have seen remittances from yourseves overtake our biggest exports. We have benefitted from support to education and health for relatives. Following UIA’s initiatives we have seen you invest in the Health sector, education sector, ICT sector, Manufacturing, Construction and Agriculture.

Many of you who return as professionals are working in Uganda’s Corporate and parastatal bodies. Those of you still in the diaspora have invested in small businesses for your family, import Ugandan products into your second homes and have begun to plan your future retirement in Uganda.

This year we shall be introducing a Diaspora Networking Breakfast and we hope to see many of you attend the session on Monday 29th of December starting from 9am. This will be a great opportunity to connect with key players in the Business sector that focuses on the Diaspora market.

In accordance with our tradition we shall also recognize those outstanding Ugandans that have made a difference living and working in the diaspora. These Diaspora success stories that continue to excel in various fields will be recognized at the Gala. The awardees are indeed phenomenal men and women.

The evening will demonstrate the best in the Diaspora and Uganda. It will also be an opportunity to end the year on a high note for friends and family who have supported and attended this gala annually. A special thank-you note to the entire Diaspora team in Uganda led by Ms. Belinda Namutebi for dedication and hard work.

Once again welcome home and happy holidays!
